Interview with an Author - Natalie Cammaratta

Happiest Halloween, folks! Today I have the fortune to interview author Natalie Cammaratta. Her book, Falling & Uprising came out recently and the sequel, Scattered & Breaking is due out soon!

Let's give a warm welcome to Natalie, eh?

You have one book published and the sequel coming out December 29th. Yay! Do you have a favorite (character) (and, if so, which one)?

It’s hard to pick ONE favorite character. My cast is so fun, but I’ll say Bram. He’s one of the two main POV characters, and for a while it was much easier to write Serenity. (I was a teenage girl once upon a time.) But I came to enjoy writing Bram the most. I adore his sarcasm and dry sense of humor, and when he’s thrown off his game his jumbled train of thought is a delight.

What is your favorite activity to do in the summer? Winter?

Summer: Stay in the air conditioning and read or write.
Winter: Sledding on the four days per season we have enough snow. Drinking peppermint spiked hot chocolate. Sitting by the fireplace to read or write.

What led you to start writing novels?

Reading books! Any book I really loved would make me want to create a book someone else would love just as much.

Star Trek or Star Wars?

Star Wars.

Okay, I love both, so we are golden.

What is your favorite author/book?

Can you try an easier question, like ‘Who is your favorite child?’

Pft. Riiiight.

The zombie apocalypse will happen in two days. You are fully stocked with food, water, and toilet paper. What is the one thing you will have stocked up on as your guilty pleasure?

BOOKS! Otherwise, thin mints and potato chips.

Ooh, good choices, especially together!

When is your favorite time to write?

Whenever it’s quiet enough. I set aside 5:30-6:30am as dedicated writing time, but sometimes the coffee does not reach the creative part of the brain that early.

Part of the #5amwriting club, eh?

Where do you draw inspiration? Real-life? Daydreams?

Everywhere. A line in a song, real life, tv/movies. I am working on what I believe will be a five book fantasy series which sparked from a scene in a children’s movie.

Nice. I cannot wait to read your books, Natalie! Thank you for visiting with me. Shine on, my friend, shine on!

Serenity Ward is the golden girl of Kaycie. She never questioned her city’s status as the last dry land on earth. The Establishment takes care of its citizens…or so she thought. But now she’s seen the map.

Why would they lie about other islands just beyond the horizon? In a city built on falsehood, figuring out who to trust is its own challenge, but Serenity pulls together a feisty group who all want the same thing—an end to the government which has hidden a world from them.

Bram’s anger drives his own desire for revolution. Being from another island, he was selected to be a brainwashed marshal in service to Kaycie, but he knows what’s going on all too well. Hidden in plain sight, he is ready to draw blood to free the islands. Only dealing with Serenity is the one thing he wasn’t prepared for.

Can two people who were never supposed to meet stop fighting each other long enough to remember who the enemy is?

Bio…

Natalie likes to sit near her bookcases so all of her unread books can glare at her. When she isn’t writing or reading, she can be found chasing her children around. She also enjoys making vague, snarky videos for her fans who want to know how her stories end. She’s slightly famous in some circles, and if you’re still reading this, you’re probably either in one of those circles, or related to her.
