A secret lineage. A family cursed. A forbidden love that can’t be denied…

Veterinarian Reina Kirke is exhausted. So, when her best friend suggests a European vacation, she doesn’t hesitate. A much-needed break and a chance to investigate her mysterious family tree sounds perfect. Too bad she’s in no way prepared for what she finds.

The fairy tale town in Belgium hides family secrets grounded in the supernatural. Legends of werewolves and witches surround her, and a taboo love affair threatens to pull her into a danger she might not be able to handle.

What seems like a chance encounter with Blaise Woodward, a brooding hunk with his own secrets, sets up a sequence of events that could unravel both of their families. But only one thing is certain.

Their lives will never be the same…

What readers are saying:

"Davis effortlessly blurs the lines between fantasy and realism in this steamy, epic adventure." Charlie Tyler, author of The Cry of the Lake

"This book was an outstanding and thoroughly absorbing opening novel in what I hope becomes a long series, quickly hooking the reader in the first few chapters and establishing an exciting world full of fresh spins on familiar ideas. Author S E Davis wastes no time in establishing the lead character Reina Kirke, quickly building a robust characterization that balances relatability with her importance at the center of a fantasy tale. The romance elements of the story were thoroughly exciting and balanced perfectly against the thrilling paranormal elements to create a dynamic mixture of the two genres that will delight fans. Overall, They Had Eyes of Silver will prove difficult for readers to put down once started, and the promise of future installments was music to my ears as I turned the final page. This is a book I can easily recommend to all readers." Reviewed by K.C. Finn for Readers' Favorite

"Everything about Sarah Davis' 'They Had Eyes of Silver' is alpha: the characters, the setting, the story—the writing—making this a fabulous new addition to the Shifter genre. A tale packed with ancestral vibes, jealousy and betrayal, hot wolves and hot romance, it rocked my socks off!  Loved it,  and can't wait to read the next in series!" -  Polly J Mordant (#teamwulfin), author of When Angels Fear

  • 3/4 cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder, sifted

  • 2 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt

  •  1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 1 cup buttermilk @ room temperature

  • 1 cup hot water

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 tsp vanilla

Whipped Cream Frosting:

  • 3 cups whipping cream, cold

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar, sifted

Fresh cherries

Chocolate Cake:

  • Preheat oven to 350F, grease two 8" round baking pans, and dust with cocoa powder. Line bottoms with parchment.

  • Place all dry ingredients into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Stir to combine.

  • In a medium bowl, whisk all wet ingredients (pour hot water in slowly as not to cook the eggs).

  • Add wet ingredients to dry and mix on medium for 2-3 mins.  The batter will be very thin.

  • Line muffin pan with cupcake liners. Fill 2/3 full with batter.

  • Bake for 18-20 mins or until a cake tester comes out mostly clean.

  • Cool 5 minutes in the pans, then place on a wire rack to cool completely.

Whipped Cream Frosting:

In a cold bowl, whip cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Pipe or spoon onto cooled cupcakes.

Add a cherry on top.

(You can go further with a cherry ganache or cherry liquor drizzle and chocolate shavings or a sprinkle of cinnamon. Either way, these cupcakes are divine.)
